What Types Of Dermal Fillers Are There?

Dermal fillers are injectables that enhance the definition, volume, and symmetry of many facial features, resulting in a more plump youthful appearance.

There are different types of dermal fillers, but by far the most common is hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. And that’s for good reason, they have all of the desired traits of a good lip filler:

  • They create the most natural lip effects.
  • They are metabolized naturally by the body, making them safe and effective.
  • They can also be dissolved to speed up the process of returning to your natural lip shape, if you chose to do so.

So often our patients say…
they only wish they had started sooner
…why are you waiting?!

How Dermal Fillers work?

Your skin goes through natural changes over the years. It thins out, becomes dehydrated, and produces less collagen and elastin. A thin layer of fat under your skin that minimizes the appearance of lines and adds healthy volume also becomes thinner. Dermal fillers are specially made to correct these problems.

Dermal Fillers Vs Botox?

Dermal fillers restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial features. Most fillers are injected into the dermal layer and last up to a year. Whereas, Botox is a wrinkle eraser (prevents muscle contraction) and is injected more superficially. Typically, Botox lasts up to 4 months.

What Are Juvéderm® dermal fillers?

Juvéderm is a family of injectable dermal fillers. Each product in the group targets specific areas of your face, but they all contain the same ingredient — hyaluronic acid in a gel base. Hyaluronic acid is normally produced in your skin, where it moisturizes and adds fullness.

When hyaluronic acid is injected under your skin, it replaces your natural fat cushion, restores volume, and plumps up the skin under wrinkles to smooth them away. With repeated injections, hyaluronic acid may also stimulate collagen production.

All of this adds up to say they are as safe, effective and reversible as possible.

What should you expect during and after Juvéderm treatment?

Your session can take up to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Juvéderm products contain lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic that helps ensure your comfort, but your doctor can also use a topical numbing cream, if needed. If numbing, please allow 20-30 minutes prior to treatment

You may have some redness or swelling at the injection sites afterward, but your provider will provide detailed self-care instructions that should be followed to promote healing. You may need to avoid sun exposure for a while and choose skin care products that don’t irritate the treated areas, as well.

Your body gradually absorbs the HA in the products. Once the results begin to wear off, it’s recommended to have another treatment to maintain and restore, youthful appearance.

If you have questions about dermal fillers, call Katalyst Wellness, email our nurse [email protected], or book a free consultation online.

*Individual results may vary.

What should you expect during and after getting lip filler procedure?

During a lip filler appointment he patient should expect the appointment to last at least one hour.

The first fifteen minutes, the patient will become numb. Then, we’ll move into injecting and a short massage will follow, along with aftercare instructions.

What is the best under eye filler?

Under eye hollows in the tear trough area are caused by a reduction of the fat pockets around the cheeks, below the eye. Additionally, there is age-related collagen loss of volume.

The best fillers for the under eye regions are hyaluronic acid (HA) based. Fillers have a range of viscosity, from low to high, and your provider discerns which is best depending on the area and its respective volume loss.

Therefore, Juvederm Volbella or Restylane L are recommended. They pull less water, so the areas swell less and have a lower HA molecular weight, so they are thinner. Thicker fillers are not recommended in those gentle areas due to their high HA molecular weight which adsorbs more water and can lead to increased swelling.

Your provider will determine which filler is best-suited for you.

Why are dermal fillers for wrinkles so effective?

Dermal fillers are so effective for wrinkle, or crease, reduction because they replace moisture and collagen loss, thus replenishing volume and smoothness.

How soon do you see results from dermal fillers?

The results from filler can be seen immediately, but take about 14 days to settle into the tissue. Over the two-week recovery period, results will smooth and look better. It’s important to be patient over the recovery time. Time is crucial for optimal results.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The majority of HA dermal fillers last up to 12 months. There are a few that can last longer. There’s variability in longevity per patient due to body metabolism.

What is the recovery time for dermal fillers?

Typically, the recovery time for dermal fillers is approximately 14 days. Keep in mind, there can be some variability, e.g., bruising may persist longer than 14 days. This will be discussed during your appointment.

What are side effects of dermal fillers?

The expected side effects are swelling and bruising, though may not occur with everyone. It’s best to expect swelling and bruising due to the needle causing slight trauma to the skin and surrounding tissues. There are also other potential side effects such as: redness, soreness, tenderness, asymmetry, lumps and/or bumps (which usually resolve by 14 days). It is very important to do your part and follow post-injection instructions to mitigate any complications. Your provider will instruct you how to take care of the treatment areas. Please contact your provider with questions, concerns, and/or side effects that do not resolve by the 14-day mark.
